Happily ever afters exist in your mind

creating scenarios
where you change your mind

I guess it's okay

picture: emilia lee
text & edit: caitlin bailey

You're bitter now, like
the salt and vinegar chips
we shared on Thursdays

Tuesday, October 9, 2012

I wasn't expecting to see you

picture, text, and edit: caitlin bailey

The whole world just stopped
I heard my heart popping, cracking
like broken plastic

"How am I supposed to make a girl fall in love with me if I'm not Iron Man?"

picture, text, & edit: caitlin bailey

I'd hold her in my
arms and we'd fly away, but
I'm not Iron Man.

Flying Ace

picture, text, & edit: caitlin bailey

Found love, adventure
But we knew it was only
a carnival ride

Autobots pog and a plastic gold coin

picture, text, & edit: caitlin bailey

I collect tickets
photographs, all evidence
of time I've wasted

Emotions Toggle

picture, text, & edit: caitlin bailey

searched my entire
body to find the off switch
you held the remote

We haven't spoken in over a month

picture: simone graff
text & edit: caitlin bailey

a six page letter
existing in cyberspace
1 unread message

Silence speaks

picture & edit: caitlin bailey
text: nate shay

I found your name, it
whispered silence to me, from
empty vocal chords.

Masquerade

picture & edit: caitlin bailey
text: nate shay

we spent so much time
pretending to be others
it's nice to meet you

While we were watching TV...

picture: joe droter
text & edit: caitlin bailey

imagined teaching
you to dance. Spun in your arms,
dizzy and love drunk

Sweet Party, Brah!

picture, text, & edit: emilia lee

the stillness of bodies
chaos filled moments echoing:
please can't you hear me?

What Were We Thinking?

picture, text, & edit: emilia lee

flirtation wrapped
came all our loneliness
truth for mere seconds

We Drown Silently

picture, text, & edit: emilia lee

your attitude and
my steel-forged grudge an anchor
to sink this friendship

Have You Read It?

picture, text, & edit: emilia lee

my bare-stripped heart
a fictional character
pulsing with our truth.

Heroes

Sometimes even the
girl with the hero complex
will need a hero

Pass the syrup

picture, text, & edit: caitlin bailey

Smell something burning
It's either your pancakes or
our hearts on fire.

And slammed the door

picture, text, & edit: caitlin bailey

I said "no," so you
pushed me into the drywall
which was rather rude

Peanut

picture, text, & edit: caitlin bailey

he was the best dog
he loved this ikea bag
and he loved me too.

Take my hand and run

picture, text, & edit: caitlin bailey

I'd be happy to
make everything better, to
kiss away the world

We've already wasted 2

picture: linda bailey
text & edit: caitlin bailey

tell me now because
we only have 50 weeks left
so make them count

Quite literally

picture: joey droter
text & edit: caitlin bailey

i fell for you. fast...
"you have a foot contusion"
i mean... down some stairs...

This could be something, but...

picture: joe droter
text & edit: caitlin bailey

I'm the only one
who's excited about us,
so, it's not worth it.

Find something that makes you smile...

that which makes you most happy
that others can't have

This feels inappropriate

picture: emilia lee
text & edit: caitlin bailey

my lips are itching
to tell you everything but
I hardly know you

Then you kissed me

picture, text, & edit: caitlin bailey

the music stopped and
we suddenly realized how
close we'd been dancing

Signs from the universe

picture: emilia lee
text & edit: caitlin bailey

It's lights and that couch
And the way that my necklace
Broke off in your hands

"You can stay... if you want"

picture: kenne toula
text & edit: caitlin bailey

didn't want to leave
your arms that night. you should have
asked, I would have stayed...

Nowhere near the sea

picture: jenn droter
text & edit: caitlin bailey

perfect in my head.
it's you, the ocean, and me.
us, anchored at sea

But you said we're just friends

A bar parking lot.
"I'm going to kiss you now."
...you're going to...what?

Easier

picture: rashmi singh
text & edit: caitlin bailey

Maybe you think it's
easier to forget than
it is to miss me.

But you didn't mean it

picture, text, & edit: caitlin bailey

"I meant what I said,"
I said. You said "I did too,"
and fixed my guitar.

Sunset

Picture, text, & edit: Simone Graff

Scared, in a new place
Will this ever feel like home?
The view is helping.

It was six pages

picture: victory budd
text and edit: caitlin bailey

Wrote you a letter
But the silence that followed
spoke louder than words

It's not like that

picture, text, & edit: caitlin bailey

We're friends, but I like
Sharing a bed with you too.
So, what does that mean?

Goodbyes are hard

picture: joey droter
text & edit: caitlin bailey

Standing in a hug
that almost broke my nose in
the mall corridor

Love letters

Dear my little THP family,

It's been a long time. I'm sorry; we're sorry. The THP creators don't live together anymore, so it's hard to find motivation to write and edit haikus when we're not sitting next to each other on a big brown couch that sort of eats you when you sit in it. I've moved to the dirty south since, and my couch now is this terrible black pleather and it's sort of hard and you always have some kind of bar or spring poking your butt--not the best creative outlet.

Anyway, work isn't terribly stimulating this week, so I decided it was time to let the haiku project make a resurgence. That's not to imply that I'll be updating this every week--I don't know what I want this project to be, if anything, but I do really like that it's always sort of there living on the internet and I can come back to it whenever I want to.

I do check the email projecthaiku@yahoo.com frequently enough, that if you were to send us something... it would get posted eventually--so there's that.

Know that we haven't forgotten you and we still love you, we're just in sort of a kooky life place--it's called the real world and I'm not too fond of it. Rob Thomas never was either... so we have that in common.

Until next time, above are a few haikus to tide you over. Send us your pictures, art, haikus, or anything else you just generally feel is worth sharing and we will be sure to post it.

All our love,
THP
